A Stitch in Time
I just got done watching this small but very informational series on fashion called A Stitch in Time. A friend of mine recommended this as a good show to watch so I decided to check it out. I love anything that is historical fashion. A Stitch in Time is available on Amazon Prime Video.
The show is hosted by fashion historian Amber Butchart. She’s a great host and asks great in depth questions. For half hour episodes, they seem to last an hour because of how much information there is and because of the right questions are being asked.
The show is only 6 episodes long, which is sad because I wanted more. I looked online and IMB and there seems to be only one season. The episodes are based on historical paintings of particular people and their dress. Then taking these historical works, she works with a local historical costumier to recreate the look. In the mean time she does amazing research on the person in the portrait that definitely leads to some ah ha moments.
The episodes cover Charles II, Arnolfini, The Hedge Cutter, Dido, The Black Prince, and Marie Antoinette. I will not give spoilers , however I will say that my favorite episodes were The Black Prince and Marie Antoinette. The amount of tangible historical information that was available in both episodes was incredible to me. To be able to see the fabrics that have been preserved from each time period was amazing. Not only that, I must say I was a bit envious of the places that Amber Butchart was allowed to visit for the entirety of the series.
So in summation, I highly, highly recommend this show for anyone that is interested in the history of fashion, the history of how the persons life was lived and historical techniques of how clothing was made. This series has made me want to look even closer at the clothing that I recreate for my medieval life. I will probably watch this series again many times.

I will check it out! My background is in costume, I love learning more about what people wore, and why…there is often meaning behind clothing of the past.

I really love the history of it all. I found the techniques they used to re-create the clothing the most interesting part.

Asking questions are truly good thing if you are not
understanding something completely, but this paragraph offers pleasant understanding yet.
